VLD Token Overview
TL;DR
VLD is the native token of the Valdium network. 1,000,000,000 fixed supply. Four purposes: gas, staking, governance, and network access. Pre-mainnet VLD will live as an ERC-20 on Ethereum, bridging 1:1 to native VLD at mainnet launch.
The four purposes of VLD
- Gas. Every transaction and contract execution pays gas in VLD. 50% of the base fee is burned (deflationary under sustained usage), 50% is paid to the block proposer and their delegators. Priority tips go 100% to the proposer.
- Stake. Validators bond VLD to join the rotating BFT committee. Token holders delegate VLD to validators they trust. Bonded VLD is the economic collateral securing consensus — slashed if a validator misbehaves.
- Governance. VLD holders vote on protocol upgrades, parameter changes, and ecosystem grants via the on-chain governance system. Voting power is proportional to bonded stake.
- Network access. Governance proposal submission requires a bond of 100+ VLD. Validator entry requires a minimum self-bond. These thresholds ensure participants have skin in the game.
Supply
| Maximum supply | 1,000,000,000 VLD (fixed — mint function revoked at launch) |
|---|---|
| Smallest unit | 10⁻¹⁸ VLD (18 decimals — Ethereum ERC-20 standard, same as Ether) |
| Pre-mainnet token | ERC-20 on Ethereum |
| Mainnet conversion | 1:1 bridge from ERC-20 → native VLD |
| Fee burn | 50% of base fee burned (deflationary under load) |
| Validator rewards | 100% from transaction fees — no pre-allocated emission pool, no inflation |
The 1B supply cap is enforced structurally: the contract has no mint function and ownership is renounced on the Ethereum mint at launch, verifiable on Etherscan. No governance vote, no protocol upgrade, and no team key can increase it.
Token status
VLD currently exists as a pre-mainnet ERC-20 on Ethereum. When Valdium mainnet ships, a 1:1 bridge will convert ERC-20 VLD to native VLD on the Valdium chain. Until the bridge ships, the ERC-20 token is the canonical token.
Security & audit
A security audit of the token contract and staking system is in progress. The report will be linked here when published. LP will be locked at launch — verifiable on-chain.
